We've been shortlisted!

We are excited to be shortlisted for two awards at this year’s Resene NZILA Pride of Place Landscape Architecture Awards. Nomayah House on the Richmond Hills has been nominated in the Residential category and Whitehaven Winery in Marlborough has been nominated in the Commercial category. We are incredibly honoured to be nominated alongside many other talented landscape architects throughout New Zealand. The awards ceremony is taking place on the 5th April so watch this space!

Rebuilding Christchurch communities

Architectural Concept (Andrew Barrie Laboratory Ltd)

Architectural Concept (Andrew Barrie Laboratory Ltd)

Construction is underway on the rebuild of Oxford Terrace Baptist Church in Christchurch - sadly the original heritage building was severely damaged in the Canterbury Earthquakes, collapsing on February 22 2011.  However through disaster comes opportunity and the new building will enable a wide range of community based activities to be housed and hosted.

Canopy is working closely with the Church, Architect (Andrew Barrie Laboratory Ltd) and other consultants to deliver a landscaped setting for the new building incorporating many of the existing established trees in the landscape design.  New sculpture and seating will be created from stone and timbers salvaged from the heritage building.

We are looking forward to helping this project emerge from the ground over the next few months.

Rabbit Island Huts consent

For Nelsonians wondering what is popping up along the road to Rabbit Island, we have the Intel.  It is the latest innovative accommodation idea by Appleby House and offers a cheap but slightly fancy option along the Great Taste Cycle ride.   Canopy enjoyed being involved with Jane realising her vision for the site.

The design has separate huts co-located together, with room to park your bike underneath and elevated views across the countryside.  Privacy is created with native trees and shrubs that blend down into a small riparian margin that is to be enhanced.

Looking forward to seeing these finished and ready for use. I am sure they will be as popular – especially with the Rabbit Island coffee container right on site in the summer months.  You will be able to wake up and smell the coffee…
